We are constantly coming in contact with our surroundings. The physical aspect of this can either be a good or bad thing. Sentence One: "The body is the primary made of perceiving scale." In this picture taken by me, you see a blonde-haired girl holding a snake on an outdoor porch. This girl is one of my close friends here at Flagler, Serena. In her hands is her new pet which she rescued from a home where it was being mistreated. The quote listed above relates to the picture because you can see how small the snake is, when comparing it to Serena's body. This picture illustrates the harmlessness of the animal which is why this picture resinates with me so much. Since I was a little girl, I have always been terribly horrified by snakes. It could be because they are one of the few animals with no limbs, or the fact that I am from Long Island and there aren't many snakes that inhabit the area. Fluxus Box Project: Title: The Little Mermaid Materials: Glass containers, fake moss/grass, ink, dead grass, vinegar, string, shoelaces, pins, champagne cork. Dimensions: 15" by 5" Artist Statement: The movie that I chose which inspired my work was The Little Mermaid. At first, I wanted to demonstrate the fluidity, harmony, and bright colors associated with the motion picture I fell in love with as a child. Upon doing more research about the original story however, I realized that Disney totally took a love/tragedy and made it into a "happily ever after," story to attract the younger audience.
